The Link

The project started with the concept of Anti-Skyscraper.
Which is the idea of going against the existing typology of skyscrapers due to the disconnection they create. It’s not just changing the physical properties, it’s about adapting it to users needs. I wanted to create a project that welcomes young to old people who seek opportunities and the project would provide them with the resources to grow. In order to connect different users through the project, I created a variety of  functions including, residential, co-living, co-working, offices for rent, Art and music school, student housing, hotel, and other public spaces. I decided to create one floor that everyone must pass by in order to get to their destinations. The seventh floor has 3 tunnels connected by small tunnels and connect all the buildings together to make movement easier around the project and to provide all different users public areas to meet along with the tunnels that also have public activities making a perfect place where people meet and enjoy their experiences through the project with the amazing view of the canal and helping in creating a connected community which we lack in Dubai.
The area is separated by the canal and the only way to cross is to go through cars bridges which is an awful experience for pedestrians. As well as, I saw an opportunity of creating something that brings the area to life throughout the day. So I started with the concept of a line that connects two sides of Dubai water canal then I started placing different volumes that have a form that goes against the architecture in Business Bay.
The project is inclusive. In order to provide all users of the Business Bay Area a connection to the project, people, and to the other side of the canal I created an outdoor bridge that starts as a ramp from
both sides. This bridge is accessible by anyone and has a bicycle track. It’s located on the sixth floor which mainly has outdoor activities.
The idea of the project is to link, which is what we lack in the typology of skyscrapers today. The project links the two sides of the canal, and it links people through the variety of activities, as well as link people with architecture. The project provides the right conditions for that link.
